Bird Control

Vale Pest Control : professional bird control solutions

Bird Control and Eradication

Do you have a bird control problem ?

For FAST, Friendly Service, Call  02920 552243

…Fast and efficient bird control

If you have problems with birds roosting nesting or being a general nuisance then you will find we have an appropriate solution to solve this problem. Below we have listed various methods that we use to resolve bird  control problems. Our experience is not limited to the standard solutions we also have a good understanding of bird behaviour allowing us to create bespoke solutions.

If gulls are nesting on the chimney:

Our standard gull control solution for situations that involve the year on year nesting of seagulls/gulls between chimney pots is to provide and install a custom made chimney cage to prevent the seagulls/gulls nesting in and between the chimney pots. For further info please look at our page How to prevent gulls nesting on a chimney

If gulls are nesting on the roof:

When gulls are nesting in the roof valleys, or behind a chimney stack or some other item offering shelter our standard solution is to install netting or wire mesh protection dependent upon the area requiring gull proofing. For gulls nesting in areas between the chimney and roof we will often use a wire mesh structure (not dissimilar to the chimney cages used to prevent gulls nesting in the chimney area). If the gulls are nesting on the roof in a valley between a couple of ridges then best solution is usually to prevent the seagulls from accessing this area by using gull netting.

If gulls are using the roof ridge or parapets:

The gulls like to be up as high as possible to limit the possibility of attack by something above them, this position also offers a better view of the surrounding area and any opportunities for easy food. Often properties overlooking fast food outlets and other providers of easy pickings suffer from gulls using their roof ridges. In these situations gull spikes offer a good form of defense moving the pest gulls on to an easier location by installing gull spikes along ridges and outer perimeters to stop the birds landing on these locations.

Gull problems on large expanse roofs and solar panel systems

If gulls are a problem on large expanses of roof or solar panels then we have some alternative solutions that have been used in other parts of the world to great success. These are project specific and best discussed once we have surveyed the property. Standard solutions in the past have been to encompass the roof with bird netting.

from anything else and pigeons nesting in this area we can install pigeon spikes and seagull spikes along ridges and outer perimeters to stop the birds landing on these locations,

we can install bird wire, bird spikes or firegel to stop pigeons landing on window sills,

If you have seagulls nesting on flat roofs or between dormers we can offer protection for these areas.

It really does not matter what the problem is, if you need to prevent seagulls nesting or landing on your property give us a call so we can advise on the best solution.

If you concerned about birds nesting on the roof at work we will carry out an inspection to identify the best form of bird protection and prevention, this will allow us to advise on the best solution for your premises.

The level of protection we can offer is dependent upon budget and size of area requiring protection from the pest birds, and the type of bird, Seagull, Pigeon or Starling you require assistance with.

If we are to physically inspect or work on the roof we need to see a copy of the Roof Certificate to ensure that we or anyone else on the roof will be secure.

Bird protection systems range from the most costly – the installation of starling netting, to the least costly – the  installation of some Pigeon wires. In between there is a massive assortment of bird protection and bird proofing products available.

For example if requiring protection from Seagulls and fully netting the site is not economically viable other options exist such as the installation of an acoustic system which in coordination with Hawk kites and regular inspections with a Harris Hawk can over a period of time prevent seagulls from nesting on a long-term site.

Pigeons, Seagulls, Starlings

VPC Bird Control specialises in birds, there are three main species of pest birds in the UK  Pigeons, Seagulls and Starlings.

Along with these three main species of pest birds there are three main factors that make Bird Control such an important area for building managers and architects:

  • there is the cosmetic impact, the unsightly mess of bird waste.
  • there is the antisocial behaviour, especially around nesting time with swooping birds, and birds stealing food.
  • there are the major health risks associated with problem birds.

VPC Bird Control employs a number of control methods when dealing with bird pests, and each job is different to the last, and each comes with its own challenges.

The VPC Bird Control team always works with the mantra

“It’s got to be neat, and it’s got to keep the birds out.”

Control methods include the use of nets, post and wire, bird spikes and electric shock tracks, fire gel.

There are many variables from one job to the next, and what works at one site, might not work at the next. This is why VPC Bird Control offers custom solutions for each specific situation.

With VPC Bird Control clients get the best results for their money and we implement world best practices, providing customized solutions for each client’s unique requirements.

Why Carry out bird control ?

There are three good reasons for carrying out bird control

 Pest Bird Health Hazards

  • Ornithosis, E-coli and salmonella are three of many diseases associated with birds.
  • Infestations of bird mites, ticks, lice and fleas are often found in bird nesting materials.
  • Histoplasmosis and Cryptococcosis are caused by a fungi which can be found growing on bird droppings/guano. The fungi release spores which can be inhaled causing illness.
  • Trips and Slips; when bird poop is wet its slippery so areas such as pavements, fire exits and walk ways present a very real risk to employees and the general public.

Health Inspectors can issue you a fine should they find evidence of bird activity and or nesting at your premises.

Damage to your Business Reputation caused by Pest Birds

You will have invested both time and money on building your reputation only to find that pigeons or gulls are inadvertently destroying it.

  • Customers complaining about the noise or being pestered by pigeons or even attacked by gulls.
  • The detrimental visual impact of bird droppings on your building and street furniture.

Damage to Buildings from pest birds
